Interlux Micron Extra Antifouling Paint
Interlux Micron Extra Antifouling Paint
Interlux Micron Extra has Micron Technology providing the longest lasting multi-season protection available today with Biolux® technology that blocks slime and improves antifouling performance for all boats in all waters and can be hauled and re-launch without repainting.
Micron Extra has controlled polishing like a bar of soap meaning that Micron gets smoother with time maximizing fuel efficiency and uses copper less copper more efficiently than hard high copper bottom paints.
- Biolux blocks slime for a cleaner bottom
- Longest lasting, multi season - ability to haul and re-launch without repainting
- Controlled polishing like a bar of soap – reduces paint build up and eliminates the need for sanding
- Micron Technology polishes to a smoother surface than hard antifoulings maximizing fuel efficiency
- Unlike old fashion high copper bottom paints, Micron Technology uses less copper more efficiently for longest lasting antifouling protection

What is Biolux™?
Biolux™ is a unique antifouling technology developed by Interlux that incorporates organic boosting biocides into a special biocide release system. This blocks slime growth for a fouling free boat bottom.
How does it work?
Just like ordinary plants, slime and algae feed on sunlight. Formulations that use Biolux™ technology prevent algae and slime from being able to grow by acting like sunscreen to block this process.
Soon after the boat is launched it comes in contact with algae in the water. Once these materials attach and feed, they begin to secrete a gel like substance that attracts more algae until it begins to look like a carpet on the bottom of your boat. This increases drag, increases fuel consumption and makes the boat more difficult to handle, which can be a problem in heavy weather. If left on the surface, it restricts the copper being released to the surface to prevent fouling.
What about the copper in bottom paint?
For hundreds of years copper has been used to protect boat bottoms from fouling. Copper is very effective at controlling shell fouling such as barnacles, tube worms and zebra mussels but it not as effective at controlling algae and slime fouling. Interlux has taken the effectiveness of copper and through the use of Biolux™ technology, improved the antifouling performance by blocking slime from forming on the bottom of your boat. This in turn keeps the bottom cleaner so the copper can do a better job of keeping the the barnacles, worms and zebra mussels from attaching to the surface.
What does this mean for Boaters?
Finally a boat bottom that is free of slime.
The Biolux™ formulations are over 100 times more effective at controlling algae and slime than formulations that do not contain Biolux, result is a cleaner more efficient hull.
To you this means –
- Less Drag and better fuel efficiency
- Less time scrubbing the bottom of your boat
- Longer lasting antifouling paints
Once the algae and slime begin to grow it can only be removed by scrubbing it off, Scrubbing shortens the longevity of copolymer, ablative and soft rosin based coatings by removing paint film prematurely.
Interlux has three powerful antifouling paints – Micron® Extra, Ultra™ and Trilux® that use the Biolux™ technology and for 2002 has introduced Micron® Optima which uses the new Activated Biolux™ technology.
The Biolux™ technology has been used in Interlux paints around the world for more than 15 years with millions of satisfied boat owners and is now available in North America. |
